Key Points for an Open Call for PMU-B
(For supporting research visit of researchers from Thailand to China)

Qualifications of Chinese host institutions :

  1. Be a university, research institute or company lawfully registration in China.
  2. Be able to provide sound working conditions for the visiting researchers from Thailand.
  3. Be able to provide the visiting researchers from Thailand a letter of invitation to research visit in China, and assist him/her in applying for entry visa, permit for residence in China, etc.

Qualifications of applicants

Candidates from Thailand applying for research visit to China should meet following criteria :

  1. The applicant should be a full-time researcher or postdoctoral researcher or a PMU-B grantee under the National Postgraduate/Postdoctoral System of Thailand.
  2. The applicant should have a doctoral degree or doctoral degree with over five years of scientific research experience.
  3. The applicant should be under the age of 45.
  4. The applicant with a project background in the following fields will be given priority: frontier technology, future technology, and cutting-edge digital technology, including artificial intelligence (AI and Medical AI), electric vehicles (EV), semiconductors and advanced electronics, space technology, and other emerging fields such as quantum technology, high-energy physics (HEP), plasma, and net zero technologies.
  5. The applicant should have an excellent English proficiency.
  6. The applicant should be able to engage in research in China for the whole duration of visit on a full-time basis.
  7. The applicant should comply with laws, regulations and other related rules of China.

 

Duration of research visit

  The duration of research visit shall be 3, 6 or 12 months to be agreed between the partnering institutions.

Funding

  The pre-tax funding for each visiting researchers from Thailand is THB 65,000 per month, which total of THB 195,000 for 3 months, THB 390,000 for 6 months, and THB 780,000 for 12 months. The funding is intended to cover living expenses and apartment rental costs. In addition, other expenses of not over THB 70,000, consisting of health insurance costs and an airplane ticket, will be included.
The funding will be allocated by the executive agency of the PMU-B to the specific Thai host institution. The Thai host institution will disburse the funding to the visiting researcher from Thailand on a monthly basis.
The funding provided by PMU-B will be divided into 2 phases:

  • The first installment will be provided up to 80% of funding within one (1) month after the researcher has signed contract with PMU-B
  • The second installment, of about 20% of the funding, will be provided within one (1) month after the researcher submits the final report to PMU-B, and the report is evaluated by the technical experts.

Application process

  The candidate should apply through the Thai host institution.

  In order to identify the successful candidates, the selection committee will consider:

  • The scientific and technical merit of the project
  • The methodological rigorous of the scientific approach
  • The long term scientific and/or technical benefits
  • The adequacy of the candidate background & knowledge

A specific attention will be given to applicants who could match funding from other sources for their project and who are lecturers or researchers in public or private institutions.

Review, selection and awards

  Applications that meet the eligibility criteria and are submitted appropriately, will be subjected to a competitive merit review process. An independent and external review panel will review all applications and recommend applications for awards to the executive agency of the PMU-B.
  The executive agency of the PMU-B will notify the awards decisions to the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and relevant Thai host institution.

Selection Schedule

Deadline for Submission: March 31, 2025

Results: August 31, 2025
Departures can be scheduled from September 2025

Documents to be provided

  1. The filled and signed application forms
  2. Copy of Passport
  3. Up-to-date resume stating the entire curriculum (including list of publications)
  4. Cover letter explaining motivations and interests in the project
  5. Copy of academic diplomas/certification
  6. Detailed description of the research project to be conducted abroad
  7. Letter of invitation from the hosting laboratory in China
  8. Letter of support (LOS) from the institutions in Thailand
  9. For post doctorates from Thailand: the LOS from institutions that candidates are affiliated. Contents of LOS should indicate that the institutions will be allocating the funding from PMU-B to the candidate.

  1. Academic and/or professional recommendations
  2. Language proficiency certificates: English (TOEFL, TOEIC, etc.)
  3. Co-funding commitment letter (if any)
